Individual Therapy with Adults

You have the opportunity, and in fact, you owe it to yourself, to live a happier, more meaningful life. But sometimes you can feel stuck and getting there on your own can seem difficult or even impossible. Working with a therapist provides you with a partner/coach to help you identify what’s getting in the way and learn strategies that allow you to move towards living the life you want.

Here are my areas of expertise:

  • Anxiety/Stress

  • Relationship & Family of Origin Issues

  • Workplace/Career Challenges

  • Parenting

  • Trauma

  • Life Transitions

  • Cross-Cultural Challenges

  • Personal Growth & Finding Meaning/Purpose

I believe that therapy is a collaborative process. I’ll encourage you to be an active participant, as real progress comes when you invest time and effort in yourself and are open to change.

I tailor my trauma-informed therapeutic approach to each client, drawing from psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, meditation/mindfulness, positive psychology, and wellness/self-care. Here is how each of these can help:

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy – Exploring your past and how you were raised can help build your understanding of why you respond the way you do in the present and can help you recognize patterns that may be standing in your way. We will also pay attention to the dynamic between us within therapy, as sometimes this dynamic can be a window into your interaction with others. Developing a better understanding of what contributed to who you are today can release you to approach life differently moving forward.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – Our thoughts and beliefs impact our feelings and behavior. But our thoughts are not always based on facts, and sometimes our beliefs about ourselves are inaccurate. Learning to recognize and challenge unhelpful automatic thoughts and beliefs can help you let go of negative interpretations about yourself and your life and open you up to seeing things as they really are.

Meditation/Mindfulness — Developing the ability to be more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in the present moment without judgment can help you better regulate your emotions, rather than be caught up with or swept away by them. Meditation has also been proven to improve focus and attention and reduce stress.

Positive Psychology – Focusing on your strengths, nurturing self-compassion and optimism, and cultivating gratitude can facilitate a greater sense of well-being and satisfaction.

Wellness/Self-Care – The mind and the body are inextricably connected, so getting sufficient sleep, healthy eating, and movement/exercise can contribute to better overall mental health. Wellness can also be enhanced through cultivating social ties and pursuing hobbies and interests.

As a result of our work together, my wish for you is that you:

  • Transform your self-limiting beliefs into self-affirming ones.

  • Treat yourself with kindness and compassion.

  • Appreciate the positive aspects of your life.

  • Recognize your strengths and your inner strength.

  • Break free of unhelpful patterns and habits.

  • Develop the courage to go after what you really want and believe in.

  • Heal from or achieve a degree of peace with your past, accepting that it can’t change or go away, but that it doesn’t have to hold you back.

  • Place boundaries on or leave those relationships that are not affirming and supportive.

  • Pursue love and friendship with people who support you and want the best for you.

Your light is more magnificent than sunrise or sunset.
